The welding side is sealed by laser or argon arc welding, which can withstand higher pressure (usually up to 2.5MPa or more) and higher temperature (above 200℃) than ordinary plate heat exchangers and is suitable for harsh working conditions.
The welded side can handle corrosive, flammable, explosive or expensive media (such as refrigerants, solvents) to avoid the risk of gasket leakage. The non-welded side retains the gasket design to facilitate the cleaning of fluids prone to scaling (such as cooling water).
The non-welded side plates can be removed separately, which is convenient for mechanical cleaning or inspection of scaling. The maintenance cost is lower than that of fully welded plate heat exchangers. And when the non-welded side gaskets are aged, only the gaskets need to be replaced instead of the entire equipment.
